Self-powered with the use of an onboard engine or battery powered for indoor use. Caterpillar tracks reduce the load on made-up surfaces while the use of boards spreads the load on softer surfaces. No requirement to make good surfaces into which the scaffolding has been keyed. In addition access platforms can easily be levelled and have inbuilt stability protection. The cross was very heavy. In order to keep costs down for the church a decision was made to cut the cross down into sections for safe removal with 1 machine rather than having to use a further lifting machine. The stems were cut off first then sections of the main body so it could be removed safely. We had a lightning protection operative at the ready to make good on the lightning protection. Numerous pictures were taken in order for the stonemason we were working with to be able to sculpture a New Cross with his outstanding skillset. --- - Categories: when the rain comes When the rains come everything starts going mental. Going to be a fire fighting few days to get clients properties sorted. Had a good few months of great weather which in itself can cause issues on roofs. Those issues created, now come to the fore. The amount of damage even one broken tile or flashings out can be outrageous (picture 7) When left or undetected it can cause many thousands of pounds worth of damage especially when it’s very difficult access internally to rectify issues. Whether it’s broken/cracked tiles, ridge tiles or chimney issues we will always make good. Sorted approx 140 leaks over the last 12 months so it’s bread & butter stuff for HAP with our own platforms. Perfect size without having to collapse the tracks to get round the back but it was tight. This one is a very old roof with Hardrow tiles that have actually worn quite thin. We found approx 6 cracked at the front and just know we fill find more at the back which is in a worse condition. So during lunch break I flew over to our friends at Hunslet roofing to pick up some reclaimed Hardrow to swap the broken ones out while we were here so they will blend in nicely as it’s a lovely old property. The picture (pic 4 )of the contrasting depth of a reclaimed tile and a broken one removed shows you how old they are as they are half the depth even of one that’s been reclaimed. Should kick the can down the road for another 5/10 years if they look after it and don’t allow people to walk on it as they will just break. They got lucky with HAP as they had gotten a quote from someone else who was planning to do it off a roof ladder. Once through needed to slide machine to the left sufficiently to enable to set up the legs. My son was working a night shift last night so I did the install on my own. I also appreciate your honesty, it seems its not very common at the moment! ” That statement right there! ! ! I appreciate your honesty. She knows I’m putting her company first! Our clients come first, above us and our business as it is they that create our business. Even got offered another job and again I gave her information to save her money which did me out of money. “You don’t need a spider for that as you can use a boom” (which I don’t have). Poof, more money given away , but I’m honest and I’ve created another great client! Now having that mindset in our greedy industry is unheard of and will take us far. This company were having some real issues on their specialist projects in the past where spiders were concerned. Best call they ever made and saved them a fair few bob in the process after hearing the costs they were being charged for that specialist service . Keep getting let down? Breakdowns. No shows. No LOLER. Wrong machine. Won’t fit Can’t reach Not really specialists. Downtime. Sound familiar? Sounds like real stress to me! This was the nice easy part below. We had mm to play with on this one. This huge property also has a hidden well on one set up we need to carry out so it will be another difficult set up in a another tight area. You have to be asking lots of questions when carrying out your survey. If your not asking those searching questions or pricing blind you may well get wet or worse your machine is going over if you accidentally set up in the wrong areas. On very tricky jobs with multiple set ups we use two IPAF trained personnel who have good experience of spiders in order to look after our clients in the best possible way. That’s why our reputation in the spider world just grows and grows. Life or death situations when you're using spiders so always choose the best. Using agency staff with limited experience ain’t gonna cut it. I’m probably one of the most experienced in the industry on spiders with well over 3,100 lifts but believe me everyday is a learning day and we take nothing for granted. Fire teams had attended to put out a house fire on Sandmoor Drive, Leeds. They couldn’t access onto the land with fire trucks in order to make the building safe so the property could be searched by their dog team. We actually organised this job through a face time call in which I was shown the relevant information I needed to see. They originally wanted to access from next door's drive but I soon established the outreach required was too great for the 33m tracked spider I asked if they could show me the front of said building and we organised between both companies that we would be able to get the tracked machine in to a relevant area to be able to access areas of concern. My arse was on the line from a video call so I needed to get the call right. Luckily we are probably the most experienced in the industry when it comes to spiders due to working off our machines daily for the last 7 years. I turned out to be correct on my call and we did reach everything required but we needed every ounce of the PB33. 15/300s outreach once we got the tricky set up sorted. Happy fire brigade and happy teams that worked on this specialist project in difficult circumstances. We were onsite for 6pm after sending all relevant documentation required. To this day I have a 100% strike rate of completing safely over 3000 lifts. There was a number of issues I picked up once I got to site to carry out a survey. Our number one priority is safety. We have to make informed decisions with all information that we can see or glean from clients. I did lots of investigations to find out information including contacting the River Trust about a canal path. Our set up area was very tight and very close to a canal edge. After discussions it came to light that the section in question was not maintained by the canal & river trust but was owned by the building owners. No maintenance had been carried out on this section for many years and TBH I felt it was in poor condition to take a 6. 8t platform after carrying out detailed investigations. I even managed to take some underwater photos of the stonework/sets in place. Yep we lose money/time/effort but I have to make an informed decision based on my H&S experience. In my eyes it’s another win as I think we have averted a potentially huge hazard. They reported leaks to their roof on Friday evening and by 3pm today we had been and sorted out the leaking roofs. They could not put scaffold up as it was on the access route to their car park which would have caused major problems if they would have had to close the entrance off for customers both arriving or leaving their facility. Luckily we were able to use a 18. 75m Tracked Access Platform to carry out the high level repairs. We did have to lower and move the machine on several occasions for customers to enter and leave the car park but we had an Operative directing proceedings from the ground to ensure all Health & Safety issues were met. The job went very smoothly and saved the hotel quite a few hundred pounds over having to use scaffold due to the height and complex area we were working in. I still see many many properties with scaffold erected and feel it's just a matter of time and more marketing to make people more aware of the huge savings that can be made by using cherry pickers. It is so much less invasive than using scaffold as there are no holes knocked into the building and no roof tiles broken from having to put boards on the roof to rest scaffold, which invariably breaks tiles. There are also security issues with scaffold as people can access high level windows whereas with a platform it is brought in, task completed and the platform is removed.
